Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report early analysis show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important political figure stated the incident made him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
