The European Union could “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it deems “unjustified” visa bans issued by the US against five Europeans working on combating digital hatred and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.
EU Officials Condemn US Action as ‘Coercion’
Officials from Europe such as Emmanuel Macron charged Washington of “bullying and threats”, after the travel bans were placed on individuals that were central to efforts to enact laws regulating American tech companies.
“For too long, European activists have led organised efforts to pressure US companies to punish American viewpoints they oppose,” stated a senior US official online. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials joined the French president in criticizing the decision.
